Role Summary
The Senior Accountant, R&D Finance will report to the Manager, R&D Finance and be responsible for managing the accounting, budgeting, analysis, and reporting of various costs within the R&D organization. This role requires close collaboration with Finance functions and key R&D stakeholders to support financial discipline, quarterly forecasts, and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. The position is a visible, business‑partner role in a fast‑paced, hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries and reconciliations and ensure accounting treatment is in accordance with GAAP and corporate accounting policy for various R&D prepaids and accruals
- Develop an understanding of accounting concepts and company’s financial policies with the wider business
- Prepare and present monthly and quarterly flux analysis for budget vs. actuals and period over period actuals vs. actuals to relevant business partners and Finance leadership
- Assist the R&D organization in preparing and managing their budgets and forecasts
- Lead monthly meetings with various members in the R&D organization to understand clinical and nonclinical activities, report financial insights, and review trends and future items to be tracked
- Provide business partners with key financial reporting information and operational support in working with various vendors directly, such as contract research organizations
- Assist the external reporting team with any audit-related requests that are impacted by the R&D accounting area as well as assist with Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls
- Contribute to efforts to continuously drive cross-functional improvements associated with processes, take corrective measures to mitigate issues noted, and enhance process to prevent recurrence
- Special projects for process or reporting improvements as identified
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in accounting; preferably with experience in public accounting
- CPA or equivalent is preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight periodic reporting deadlines
- Willingness to learn from team members and adapt to growing business needs
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Effective organizational skills
- Confident relationship management skills and comfortable communicator to all levels of the business
- Ability to work and problem-solve independently, but embraces teamwork and collaboration
- Effective critical thinking skills to brainstorm process improvements and create efficiencies
- Experience in using large ERP systems is a plus, preferably Oracle, though full training will be provided
- Proficient in using Microsoft Excel and an interest in data analytics tools or process automation
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
