Position Summary
The Specimen Processing Clerk I supports the department with clerical and ancillary duties for creating and accessioning clinical cases for patient output. Follows standard laboratory procedures and policies and progresses in learning CLIA, CAP, and NYS regulations.

Job Responsibilities
- Open packages and perform video receipt of incoming specimens for clinical processing.
- Create/manage patient cases: set up new cases, update current cases, enter specimens, attach documents, perform QC checks for accuracy, and other case management tasks.
- Open/close specimen and case discrepancies to ensure accurate, timely processing.
- Work cross-functionally with Client Services, IHC, Pathologists, PAs, and Reporting.
- File, track, retrieve, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain diagnostic viability of specimens and ensure correct patient labeling; verify accuracy in the laboratory information system.
- Record specimens prepared in laboratory logs and enter appropriate information into the lab information system.
- Perform QA/QC for cases, specimens, and documentation.
- Maintain supply inventory; receive packages, submit supply chain requests/orders to Purchasing per policy.
- Assist with other related duties and special projects as required.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general internet use for business.
- Able to work Tuesdayโ€“Saturday, 10:00amโ€“6:30pm.

Preferred Qualifications
- 1โ€“3 years of laboratory operations experience.
- Ability to take/follow direction; know appropriate resources.
- Multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong attention to detail; results/service/continuous improvement mindset.
- Proficient communication, teamwork, customer service focus.
- Knowledge of lab safety (biohazards/chemicals) and QC procedures/regulations.
