Position Summary
The Specimen Processing Clerk I supports the department with clerical and ancillary duties in creating and accessioning clinical cases for patient output. Follows standard laboratory procedures and policies while learning applicable regulations (CLIA, CAP, and NYS) under the Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
- Open packages and receive incoming specimens for clinical processing.
- Create and manage patient cases (set up new cases, update current cases, enter specimens, attach documents, perform QC checks, and other case management tasks).
- Open and close specimen and case discrepancies to ensure timely, accurate processing.
- Work cross-functionally with Customer Support, MolecularโLiquid Profiling, Compliance, Reporting, Patient Billing, PAโs, Pharma Research Operations, and Biorepository.
- File, track, retrieve, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain diagnostic viability; ensure correct patient labeling; verify information in the laboratory information system.
- Record specimens prepared in laboratory logs and enter appropriate information into the LIS.
- Perform QA/QC for cases, specimens, and documentation.
- Maintain supply inventory; manage receiving and supply chain requests; submit orders to Purchasing.
- Assist with related duties and special projects as needed; accept other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications/Skills
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic Internet use for business.
- Ability to work Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, 2pmโ12:30am.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1โ3 years of experience in general laboratory operations.
Other/Training
- Job-specific safety and compliance training assigned based on job functions.
- Periodic travel; some evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
