Position Summary
The Specimen Processing Clerk I supports the department with clerical/ancillary duties to create and accession clinical cases for patient output, following laboratory procedures and policies and progressing in learning applicable regulations (CLIA, CAP, NYS) under the Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
- Open packages and perform video receipt of incoming specimens for clinical processing.
- Create and manage patient cases (new case setup, updates, specimen entry, attach documents, QC checks, and case management).
- Open and close specimen/case discrepancies to ensure timely, accurate processing.
- Work cross-functionally with Customer Support, Molecular—Liquid Profiling, Compliance, Reporting, Patient Billing, PA’s, Pharma Research Operations, and Biorepository.
- File, track, retrieve, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain diagnostic viability and ensure correct patient labeling; verify information in the laboratory information system.
- Record specimens prepared in laboratory logs and enter appropriate data into the LIS.
- Perform QA/QC for cases, specimens, and documentation.
- Maintain supply inventory (receiving, requests, and ordering via Purchasing per policy).
- Assist with related duties and special projects as needed; accept other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general Internet use for business.
- Availability to work Tuesday–Saturday, 2:00pm–10:30pm.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in general laboratory operations.
