Position Summary
- Specimen Processing Clerk I provides clerical/ancillary support to create and accession clinical cases for patient output. Learns and complies with CLIA, CAP, and NYS regulations; works under the Supervisor following lab procedures and policies.
Job Responsibilities
- Open packages and receive incoming specimens (including video receipt) for clinical processing.
- Create and manage patient cases: set up new cases, update current cases, enter specimens, attach documents, perform QC checks, and complete case management tasks.
- Open/close specimen and case discrepancies to ensure timely, accurate processing.
- Work cross-functionally with Customer Support, Molecular (Liquid Profiling), Compliance, Reporting, Patient Billing, PAβs, Pharma Research Operations, and Biorepository.
- File, track, retrieve, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain diagnostic viability; ensure correct patient labeling; verify information in the laboratory information system.
- Record specimens prepared in laboratory logs and enter appropriate data into the system.
- Perform QA/QC for cases, specimens, and documentation.
- Maintain supply inventory; manage receiving, supply-chain requests, and purchasing orders.
- Assist with related duties and special projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general Internet use for business.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1β3 yearsβ experience in general laboratory operations.
Required Training
- Job-specific, safety, and compliance training assigned based on job functions.
Other
- May require some evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
