Role Summary
The Specimen Processing Clerk I provides clerical and ancillary support to create and accession clinical cases for patient output, while learning applicable laboratory regulations and working under supervision.
Responsibilities
- Open packages and video receipt of all incoming specimens for clinical processing.
- Create and manage patient cases, including setting up new cases, updating current cases, entering specimens, attaching documents, performing Quality Control checks, and other case management tasks.
- Open and close specimen and case discrepancies to ensure accurate information and timely processing.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Customer Support, Molecular โรรฌ Liquid Profiling, Compliance, Reporting, Patient Billing, PAโรรดs, Pharma Research Operations, and Biorepository.
- File, track, retrieve, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain diagnostic viability of specimens and ensure correct patient labeling; verify accuracy in the laboratory information system.
- Record specimens prepared in laboratory logs and enter information into the laboratory information system.
- Ensure QA/QC for all cases, specimens, and documentation.
- Maintain supply inventory, process package receiving, and submit purchasing requests per policies.
- Assist with related duties and special projects to support the laboratory; other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general internet use for business.
- Preferred: One to three years of experience in general laboratory operations.
Skills
- Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and QA/QC processes.
- Effective cross-functional communication.
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent (required).
Additional Requirements
- Physical demands include extended computer use, inventory management, potential exposure to laboratory materials, ability to lift up to 30 pounds, and potential travel/odd hours as needed.
