Role Summary

Specialty Representative, Psychiatry - Joliet, IL responsible for executing brand strategy and tactics in the field, managing the assigned territory and targeted accounts, and building strong customer relationships to maximize short- and long-term sales performance with patient-centric focus, while complying with applicable laws and AbbVie policies.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed planned goals.
  • Create pre-call plan objectives and perform post-call evaluation to continuously improve sales performance; handle objections and concerns to close on sales calls.
  • Proactively serve customer needs and expectations to build trusted relationships and achieve win-win agreements between AbbVie and customers.
  • Develop and execute a call plan that meets call metrics and optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and sales opportunities.
  • Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory landscape, competitors, market dynamics, accounts, disease states, product and sales expertise; share market intelligence with in-field team and brand team.
  • Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with health providers and identify, develop, and maintain disease state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy or business-related field preferred or equivalent industry experience required
  • Relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree: at least five (5) years of experience with three (3) or more years in pharmaceutical/health/science industry preferred; high school diploma/GED required
  • Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge; strong business acumen and proficient use of business tools; strategic and critical thinking capabilities
  • Proactively identifies customer style/behavior and adapts selling approach; leverages findings to develop sales strategies
  • Provides impact with ideas for the larger organization; operates effectively in a matrix environment
  • Influences others and is seen as a credible, respected resource; builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix teams
  • Leads by example; demonstrates positive behaviors and coaching in changing environments; documentable leadership experience at district/region/organizational levels
  • Preferred: Proven track record of sales success in respective therapeutic areas; experience in physician/account-based selling, training, managed care or marketing
  • English proficiency (verbal and written) for non-English speaking locales
  • Must satisfy all applicable health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain access to facilities and organizations in the assigned territory; in good standing or eligible to obtain these credentials
  • HCIR credentialing may include background checks, drug screens, immunizations, fingerprinting, and specific licenses; sole responsibility to satisfy all requirements
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and meet safe driving requirements
