Role Summary

The Specialty Representative, Psychiatry is a field-based role responsible for executing brand strategy and tactics, managing an assigned territory and targeted accounts, and building strong customer relationships to maximize short- and long-term sales performance. The role places the patient at the center of efforts and requires adherence to AbbVie’s business code of conduct, policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed set goals.
  • Create pre-call plan objectives and conduct post-call evaluations to continuously improve sales performance; handle objections and close effectively.
  • Proactively serve customer needs and challenges to build trusted relationships and achieve win-win agreements between AbbVie and customers.
  • Develop and execute a call plan that achieves metrics and optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and opportunities.
  • Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory landscape, competitors, market segments, and disease/product knowledge; share market intelligence with in-field team, brand team, and sales manager to achieve alignment.
  • Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with health providers and identify/develop disease state experts and advocates to maximize brand performance.
  • Drive personal or company vehicle use as required for field work.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or business-related field preferred or relevant and equivalent industry experience; in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, at least five (5) years of industry experience with three (3) or more years in pharmaceutical/health/science preferred and a high school diploma/GED required.
  • Required: Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge; recognized as an expert resource; strong business acumen and proficient use of business tools; strategic and critical thinking abilities.
  • Required: Proactively identifies customer style/behavior and adapts selling approaches; uses findings to develop sales strategies; offers innovative ideas to maximize opportunities.
  • Required: Ability to operate effectively in a matrix environment; influences others and is viewed as a credible and respected resource; builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix team.
  • Required: Leads by example with positive behaviors; demonstrated leadership and increased responsibility at district/region/organizational levels.
  • Preferred: Proven track record of sales success in respective therapeutic areas; experience in physician/account-based selling, training, managed care, or marketing is preferred; English proficiency in speaking and writing (for non-English speaking countries).
  • Required: Satisfy all applicable health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain entry into facilities in the assigned territory; in good standing or eligible to obtain credentials.
  • Required: HCIR credentialing may include background checks, drug screens, immunization proof, fingerprinting, and licenses; you are responsible for satisfying all requirements.
  • Required: Valid driver’s license and ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and meet safe driving requirements.
