Role: Solid-state scientist within Lilly's Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) organization, focused on developing and characterizing solid forms of small molecules, peptides, and emerging modalities for preclinical to clinical stages. Responsibilities: conduct solid-form screening, characterization, and scale-up crystallization; collaborate with development teams to solve technical challenges related to solid forms and particle properties; develop workflows integrating solid-state insights with automated data analysis; document scientific findings; maintain laboratory instrumentation. Requirements: PhD in physical sciences (chemistry, pharmaceutics) or Master's with 5+ years’ experience; expertise in solid-state characterization tools (XRPD, DSC, TGA, DVS, HPLC), crystallization equipment (Easymax, Crystal 16); solid form screening experience including salt and cocrystal selection; familiarity with pharmaceutical solid-state science impacting manufacturing and drug performance. Preferred: industry experience, understanding of solid-state science’s impact on drug development, ability to manage multiple projects and handle ambiguity. High-Value: focus on small molecules and peptides, preclinical and clinical development phases, solid form screening and scale-up, laboratory-based role with occasional travel (~0-10%), location in Indianapolis, IN.
