What You’ll Be Doing
- Support and manage enterprise VMware ESX-based Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) on-premises and in Microsoft Azure.
- Maintain system stability, automate operational tasks, and ensure high availability for critical workloads.
- Improve efficiency using modern AI automation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar) to streamline engineering workflows.
- Maintain critical infrastructure for Lilly Manufacturing and research sites in multi-datacenter stretch clusters.
- Improve availability/reliability via repeatable patterns, architectural improvements, and enhanced observability to prevent outages.
- Provide mentorship and direction to global operations SMEs.
How You’ll Succeed
- Drive AI Ops, event-driven automation, and observability to prevent repeat issues.
- Accelerate Infrastructure AI Ops automation, cloud IaaS management, and infrastructure-as-code.
What You Should Bring
- Linux/Windows and VMware vSphere experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with automated infrastructure availability/resiliency (vSphere/Storage replication) at enterprise scale.
- Experience with AI-driven automation tools (Claude Code/Codex or similar).
- Knowledge of modern VMware ESX/Azure VMware Service and IaaS (EC2/Azure Compute); bonus skills: Python, JSON, YAML, ARM, Git.
- Networking knowledge (VLANs/trunking) and VMware networking (vDS).
- Plus: Zerto, VMware HCX; leading global large-scale ESX operations.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in CS/IT or related field.
- 4+ years as a VMware ESX/Platform Engineer.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time; no visa sponsorship.
