Role Summary
The Senior Therapeutic Area Specialist (Oncology) is a field-based role focused on driving demand for Bristol Myers Squibb medicines within an assigned territory and delivering a scientifically grounded, patient-centric customer experience to Health Care Providers. The role builds credibility with regional thought leaders and community-based physicians/HCPs, liaising with cross-functional teams to meet HCP needs in a timely and compliant manner while prioritizing the safe and appropriate use of BMS products. This position requires 100% field presence with external customers, and the territory includes Sacramento, CA, with additional coverage in Reno, NV; Redding, CA; and Roseville, CA.
Responsibilities
- Portfolio Promotion
- Promotes approved indications of BMS products within a defined territory or region to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner.
- Creates demand for BMS medicines by articulating the clinical and scientific rationale for use of products in appropriate patients.
- Engages with and maintains a high level of scientific expertise in all assigned products and therapeutic areas.
- Prepares and implements comprehensive territory and account plans.
- Proactively uses available tools such as CE^3 to derive insights and inform call plans; provides feedback to leadership to enable continuous improvement.
- Fair & Balanced Scientific Dialogue
- Demonstrates scientific expertise and uses approved resources to present information to HCPs, ensuring medical accuracy.
- Conducts in-office presentations and discusses product-related scientific information with HCPs consistent with label.
- Organizes external speaker programs, selecting speakers from approved lists and facilitating scheduling and logistics.
- Maintains a high level of working expertise on emerging data for approved indications.
- Engages real-time medical support through Medical on Call to answer unsolicited questions and technical inquiries.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Proactively collaborates with other field teams to ensure the best Customer Experience for HCPs.
- Gathers and shares relevant insights with appropriate stakeholders to better serve customers.
- Complies with all laws, regulations, and policies governing BMS conduct.
Qualifications
- Required: Advanced scientific degree and/or 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience as healthcare sales / MSL / HCP / nurse.
- Required: Ability to communicate scientific or clinical data accurately and convincingly to help physicians best serve their patients.
- Required: Demonstrated experience building and maintaining credibility with key customers, office staff, and others in the customer influence network via a customer-centric mindset and desire to create positive and differentiated Customer Experience (Cx).
- Preferred: Oncology experience.
- Required: Demonstrated strong capability in account management skill sets, superior selling competencies, and a proven sales performance track record of meeting or exceeding goals.

Additional Requirements
- Field-based role with 100% time in the field working with external customers; travel within the territory as needed.
