Role Summary

The Therapeutic Area Specialist (TAS) is a critical role in our unique customer model to execute the BMS aspiration to be the BioPharma that delivers the most impactful engagement with Health Care Providers (HCPs), driving adoption of new and existing medicines for appropriate patients. The primary role is to drive demand for BMS medicines within their portfolio for the appropriate patients, delivering a differentiated Customer Experience through deeper scientific dialogue aligned with label, and leveraging new ways of working and CE^3. The role builds and maintains professional credibility with regional thought leaders and community-based physicians/HCPs in private practice, medical groups, office staff, and other stakeholders in the patient care continuum as their primary point of contact. The TAS liaises with other BMS functions to deliver a higher Customer Experience by meeting HCP needs in a timely and scientific manner, prioritizing safe and appropriate use of BMS products while focusing on business results and performance objectives. The TAS role is field-based and is expected to spend 100% of time in the field with external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Promotion
  • Promotes approved indications of BMS products within a defined territory or region to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner.
  • Creates demand for BMS medicines by articulating the clinical and scientific rationale for use in appropriate patients.
  • Engages with and maintains/grows scientific expertise in all assigned products and therapeutic areas.
  • Prepares and implements comprehensive territory and account plans.
  • Proactively uses CE^3 to derive insights and inform call plans; provides feedback to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Fair & Balanced Scientific Dialogue
  • Demonstrates scientific expertise and uses approved resources to present information to HCPs; ensures medical accuracy.
  • Conducts in-office presentations and discusses product-related scientific information consistent with label.
  • Organizes external speaker programs and coordinates scheduling/logistics.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on emerging data for approved indications.
  • Engages real-time medical support via Medical on Call for unsolicited questions and complex inquiries.
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Collaborates with other field teams to enhance Customer Experience for HCPs.
  • Gathers and shares relevant insights internally to enable better service to customers.
  • Complies with all laws, regulations, and policies governing conduct.

Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree and/or 5+ years of pharmaceutical/biotechnology experience in healthcare sales, MSL, HCP, or nursing.
  • Ability to communicate scientific/clinical data accurately to help physicians serve patients.
  • Experience building credibility with key customers and office staff through a customer-centric mindset and commitment to a differentiated Customer Experience (Cx).
  • Experience in Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Strong account management, selling competencies, and track record of meeting/exceeding goals.
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally with a positive, collaborative mindset.
  • Strong selling and promotional skills with proven performance.

Education

  • Advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD) or equivalent preferred
