Role Summary

Senior Technician 2nd shift. Operates and assists coaches with managing automatic solid-dose packaging equipment as part of an empowered work team, performing line check-in, in-process quality monitoring, equipment operation, cleaning, change-over, and material movement following established procedures. Reports to the Operational Coach (Manager).

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the mission to ensure finished goods and services are of the highest quality, at optimal cost, and delivered on schedule.
  • Function as a role model in a team-based Employee Involvement culture, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Operate and assist in troubleshooting and problem resolution for processes and packaging equipment.
  • Assist coaches and operators with operational, mechanical, and technical activities that support production standards while following GMPs and SOPs.
  • Perform and train others in cleaning and inspection of equipment between production batches.
  • Lead in the setup and adjustment of production equipment (e.g., tablet fillers, thermoformers, cappers, labelers, checkweighers, cartoners, case packers, palletizers) as needed for optimal performance within qualified parameters.
  • Examine products to detect defects and identify damage or other visual quality problems.
  • Assist coaches with managing the accuracy of critical information and ensure documentation for production processes is complete and accurate.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment malfunctions; communicate with the coach for timely resolution.
  • Maintain detailed records related to equipment cleaning, setup, and challenge documentation.
  • Help ensure operational concerns are visible and that continuous improvement actions are taken with urgency.
  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and standard work area compliance (housekeeping, material segregation, personal gowning, PPE).
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and effective communication within time constraints.
  • Support off-shifts and weekend work as required.

Quality

  • Ensure packaging operations comply with cGMPs, SOPs, and divisional policies; interact with other departments as needed.
  • Identify, raise, and help manage quality issues; provide information for corrective actions.
  • Work with Quality, Maintenance, and Planning to inform parties of quality deviations and support investigations and corrective actions.
  • Train others on line clearance to prevent cross-contamination.

Safety

  • Conform to OSHA and regulatory safety procedures; use safety equipment as needed.
  • Champion personal and team safety; identify and document unsafe conditions and participate in investigations and corrective measures.

Equipment

  • Operate packaging equipment within qualified parameters; document equipment challenges as required.
  • Demonstrate mechanical ability to troubleshoot and train others to resolve equipment concerns related to jams and component problems.
  • Identify and communicate equipment problems to assist mechanics with repairs.

Financial

  • Understand requirements for achieving packaging Profit Plan standards; assist in communicating production schedules to complete monthly orders.
  • Contribute to departmental financial goals by understanding and controlling labor, component usage, and waste.

Team/Individual Performance

  • Lead a team-based culture through participation in team meetings and continuous improvement activities.
  • Display maturity, leadership, and personal integrity; adhere to site policies on conduct and attendance.
  • Collaborate and communicate across organization levels; demonstrate leadership and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Be open to constructive feedback in 360° performance reviews.

Additionally, The Senior Operator Will

  • Coordinate daily work schedules and communicate daily customer service and performance targets.
  • Work with Quality, Maintenance, and Planning to resolve quality issues on the line.
  • Gather information for quality and safety investigations and robust CAPAs.
  • Provide training, develop training documents, and facilitate effective processes for new operators.
  • Resolve and report issues with product accountability and SAP system problems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and process occurrences across all packing lines.
  • Guide others with documentation actions in SAP PI sheets and paper records.
  • Interact with Materials Management Specialists to resolve component issues and incoming quality concerns.
  • Drive problem solving and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support Tier 1 and escalate issues to Tier 2; determine root causes for line downtime affecting schedule adherence.
  • Review Parsec data, resolve documentation errors, and update SOPs as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and effective communication.
  • Review completed process orders to ensure no documentation errors in quality.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required

  • Minimum of three (3) yearsβ€šΓ„Γ΄ experience in FDA-regulated industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work with others effectively.
  • Experience in peer training activities.

Desirable

  • AAS degree or higher in Business, Science, or Technology.
  • Yellow Belt certified or Kata training.
  • Strong computer skills with experience using SAP.
  • Understanding of Lean principles and Continuous Improvement acumen.
  • Strong mechanical and technical skills.
