Role Summary
The Senior Specialist, Senior Buyer will report to the Associate Director, Procurement, and will maintain alignment with the pharmaceutical operations network strategy. This role partners with cross-functional stakeholders to lead and execute operational buying, procurement, inventory management, and warehousing & logistics to support on-site manufacturing operations. It requires managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and effectively communicating data, conclusions, and best practices across site and network levels.
Responsibilities
- Must comply with all Security guidelines, Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, and current Good Manufacturing Practices required by the job function.
- Interpret and analyze Material Requirements Planning (MRP) demand requirements and plan/procure Finished Product, Bulk Product, API, Raw Material, Components, Operating Supplies, Equipment, and Maintenance supplies for the Phoenix facility.
- Basic knowledge of materials requirements, planning, and procurement concepts including inventory management, cycle counts, expediting, order placement, and logistics.
- Intermediate knowledge of concepts and practices in materials planning, including reorder point planning and contract communication/execution.
- Maintain system planning parameters (e.g., lot size, lead time, safety stocks) and track via the material control checklist.
- Conduct investigations and root cause analysis on supply disruptions or material quality issues and report corrective actions.
- Manage expiration dates and drive mitigation plans to prevent expiring material.
- Identify, escalate, triage, and resolve material shortages before they affect production.
- Support new product launches and/or special projects (planning meetings, readjust purchasing plans, ensure specifications are in place and approved by supplier).
- Organize product transportation between manufacturing sites, 3PLs, and customers; coordinate import/export activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Supply Chain, MS&T, Manufacturing Ops, Engineering, and Finance/Admin to ensure seamless service.
- Implement direct material strategic category initiatives at the Phoenix site in alignment with Global Procurement leaders and Site Supply Chain Lead.
- Achieve and exceed metrics including value beyond savings, savings avoidance, cost reduction, and invoicing compliance.
- Lead and support sourcing activities related to supplier qualifications, readiness, assessment, and project execution including tech transfers.
- Support supplier risk assessment across direct materials and collaborate with global teams on key relationship segmentation.
- Negotiate direct and indirect sourcing in compliance with global policies; review and score suppliers in RFP processes.
- Develop relationships with key suppliers to drive performance in line with BMS values.
- Complete activities related to direct material supplier notifications, change control requirements, and supplier change notices.
- Support impact assessments for new product launches and new suppliers; interact with Compliance, Supply Chain, QA, QC, and Manufacturing Technology to meet change control requirements.
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality to support Supplier Alerts for direct materials.
- Support PPV, WOV, P1, Budget, and P2 direct material financial monitoring for the site.
- Requires travel.
Qualifications
- Required: At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business Management/Business Administration.
- Preferred: APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) or ISM (Institute for Supply Management) certification.
- Preferred: Strong proficiency in SAP/Oracle/Track-wise/PeopleSoft, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Positive, collaborative approach to problem solving with ability to work in a team; demonstrated independence and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in a matrix organization is preferred.
Education
- Bachelorβs degree, preferred, preferably in Business Management/Business Administration
