Senior Manufacturing Automation Engineer β Hybrid (West Point Vaccine Manufacturing)
Responsibilities:
- Own life cycle management for manufacturing automation systems, including assessment, scoping, funding, and execution of system upgrades to mitigate obsolescence risks and improve cybersecurity posture.
- Coordinate with facility automation leads and business capital owners to define upgrade scope, secure capital approval, and manage project delivery.
- Support management of connected instruments: support, qualification, and integration of manufacturing instruments (e.g., portable particle counters, pH/conductivity meters, spectrophotometers).
- Execute on-site support and qualification for site-owned devices; coordinate with global product owners to manage middleware/integrations with MES and LIMS.
- Participate in planning new qualifications and review/approve SDLC documentation for deployments into new areas.
- Provide direct support to manufacturing automation systems: troubleshoot operations, investigate automation anomalies to prevent recurrence, and develop code/configuration changes to improve performance.
- Perform system administration: identify trends, process monitoring, maintain system documentation, data querying and analysis, and upskill operations/support groups.
- Support projects for new equipment introduction, integration of new system functionality, and obsolescence management/replacement/upgrade to improve production unit performance.
- Communicate daily with business, technical, and quality representatives through the tier process.
- Understand and support GMPs, safety, and environmental regulations.
Education:
- Bachelorβs degree in Engineering, Science, Information Technology, or other relevant discipline.
Required Experience/Skills:
- 5 years in process automation (or equivalent).
- Experience with automation platforms including DCS (DeltaV), PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), SCADA, OSI PI, and Batch Reporting (Informetric Info Batch).
- Required skills: Audit Management, Business Process Improvements, Data Management, Problem Management, Quality Management, Real-Time Programming, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Preferred:
- Experience with Computer System Validation.
- Familiar with lean manufacturing; ability to translate business logic and requirements into detailed system requirements.
