Role: Senior scientist leading sgRNA upstream process development within the oligonucleotide and lipid process sciences team at Intellia. Objectives: optimize, develop, and tech transfer scalable GMP processes for oligonucleotide synthesis, supporting all lifecycle stages from early pipeline to commercial manufacturing. Responsibilities: lead process characterization and optimization of solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis (OP100 scale), troubleshoot analytical data, support downstream purification improvements, and facilitate process validation and tech transfer activities. Manage project milestones, coordinate with external manufacturing, author SOPs, and ensure documentation compliance. Serve as process chemistry SME for oligonucleotide and small molecule synthesis, mentor junior staff, and communicate progress across teams. Requirements: PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field; 2+ years (PhD) or 8+ years (MS) in oligonucleotide process chemistry, with hands-on experience in automated synthesizers, HPLC, and LC-MS. Strong organic chemistry foundation and familiarity with GxP environments, quality systems, and pharmaceutical development lifecycle. Preferred: experience with phosphoramidite chemistry, small molecule manufacturing knowledge, and cross-functional project management. High-value specifics: focus on oligonucleotide process development, GMP process transfer, and collaboration with external partners in a biologics/chemistry setting. Location: site-based within a biotech/biopharma environment, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
