Role Summary

Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist, Chemistry Lead responsible for developing and executing medicinal chemistry strategies on lead optimization to deliver a high-quality development candidate in a fast-paced environment. Lead chemists and CRO teams, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated compound performance from design to candidate delivery.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for developing and executing medicinal chemistry strategies on a lead optimization program to deliver a high-quality development candidate in a fast-paced environment.
  • You will lead chemists at Relay as well as CRO teams to advance your project.
  • You will work closely and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team of computational chemists, biophysicists, cell and molecular biologists, pharmacologists, and DMPK specialists. You will see how all the aspects of compound performance are necessary to make it a drug, and you can communicate that effectively to your discovery partners.

Qualifications

  • Required: PhD with at least 5 years or MS with at least 8 years of relevant biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry experience in medicinal chemistry, with an emphasis on lead optimization in small molecule drug discovery
  • Required: Education in chemistry with an emphasis on synthetic organic chemistry, synthetic methodology or a related field.
  • Required: Passion for working on high impact targets and bringing medicines to patients.
  • Required: Experience leading or readiness to lead a team and make critical decisions on the SAR direction.
  • Required: Delivered development candidates with a track record supported by high impact publications and/or patents.
  • Required: Good understanding of biology, pharmacology, DMPK and safety.
  • Required: Comfortable enabling compound design with in silico predictive tools and structure-based drug design.
  • Required: Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to different work styles and foster creativity.

Education

  • PhD with at least 5 years or MS with at least 8 years of relevant biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience in medicinal chemistry (as above).
