Senior Scientist, Peptide Chemistry

Role Summary

Senior Scientist, Peptide Chemistry responsible for design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel peptide-based therapeutics, contributing to the advancement of the drug discovery pipeline. Lead and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to integrate peptide candidates into broader therapeutic development efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and execution of complex synthetic routes for the development of novel peptide-based compounds, ensuring high-quality and efficient synthesis processes.
• Utilize analytical techniques (HPLC, MS, NMR, and other spectroscopic methods) to characterize and validate the biophysical stability of synthesized peptides.
• Conduct literature reviews and stay abreast of developments in peptide chemistry, integrating new methodologies into research projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and optimize peptide-based drug candidates, evaluating structure-activity relationships and pharmacokinetic properties.
• Plan and implement research strategies, including design of experimental protocols, data analysis, and interpretation to support project milestones.
• Mentor and provide guidance to other scientists, fostering a collaborative environment for scientific growth.
• Contribute to drafting research reports, publications, and patent applications, communicating findings to internal stakeholders and the scientific community.
• Maintain a strong commitment to laboratory safety, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and industry standards.
• Uphold Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and prioritize safety, contributing to a safety-focused culture.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• BS, MS or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or related discipline with focus on peptide chemistry.
• A minimum of 7+ years of relevant industry experience in peptide synthesis, purification, and characterization, preferably in biotech/pharma research.
• Strong problem-solving skills with detailed understanding of peptide synthesis side reactions.
• Expert-level peptide purification, isolation, and analytical skills.
• Proven expertise in designing and executing complex synthetic strategies and knowledge of modern peptide chemistry techniques.
• Experience building complex peptides with multiple modifications.
• Proficiency with analytical instruments (HPLC, MS, spectroscopic tools) for characterization of peptides.
• Experience with physical characterization of peptides (size exclusion chromatography, fibrillation assay, purity assessment).
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with a track record of interdisciplinary teamwork.
• Publication record in reputable journals and/or ability to contribute to IP development through patents.
