Role Summary

Senior Scientist, Multispecific Antibody Engineering (Oncology) at AbbVie. Discovery Biotherapeutics seeks a highly skilled scientist to design, engineer, and manufacture multispecific biologics to support oncology projects. The role involves engineering, production, and characterization of multispecific biopharmaceutical products, with emphasis on advancing early- and late-stage discovery programs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for design, engineering and production of multispecific biologics to support oncology
  • Evaluate and integrate state-of-the-art technology to improve therapeutic production platforms, and demonstrate creative “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve difficult problems
  • Serve as a Multispecifics Engineering representative for cross-functional teams, and contribute scientific insights into multiple projects across various therapeutic areas; recognized expert in multispecifics design and production
  • Serve as the Biologics lead on projects to coordinate activities and transitions from hit generation through candidate nomination
  • Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceive and implement innovative process research ideas
  • Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports
  • Provide project update, analysis and advice to cross-functional teams and senior management
  • Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents

Qualifications

  • PhD, MS, or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related disciplines with typically 0-5 (PhD), 8-11 (MS), or 10-13 (BS) years of experience, ideally in multispecifics biologics engineering
  • Extensive experience with protein, biologics, fragments, and multi-specifics design, expression and purification
  • Design experience of multispefics for ADC is preferred
  • Experience with purification and automation instruments e.g. Akta, Kingfisher, Hamilton
  • Sound scientific understanding of current state of protein expression/separation/analytical technologies and ability to explore and develop new approaches for innovative purification
  • Experience with CRO coordination
  • Experience with in vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (e.g. SEC, MS, DSF); experience with developability screening for multispecifics preferred
  • Strong molecular biology skills (e.g. molecular cloning) and experience with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata)
  • Knowledge of biologic pipeline progression from exploratory through candidate nomination with program management experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to rapid change in priorities
  • Candidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment, and strong can-do attitude
  • Recognized in the scientific community through a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications and patents preferred

Skills

  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building across functions to enable high performance
  • Fast learner with ability to grasp core concepts quickly and adapt direction as needed
  • Drive to raise the bar and challenge the status quo
  • Fosters a learning environment and openness to experimentation for improvement
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing
