Role Summary
The Senior Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry role at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in Emeryville, CA, focusing on design and synthesis of small molecules and applying medicinal chemistry principles to drive key decisions.
Responsibilities
- Independently create hypotheses, design compounds and carry out multi-step syntheses of small molecules
- Use contemporary medicinal chemistry principles to drive science to key decision points
- Analyze and interpret data, solve synthetic issues and design follow-up experiments
- Collaborate with peers and work effectively as part of a cross-functional team
- Adhere to laboratory safety policies and practices
Qualifications
- BS or MS degree in organic chemistry, with 4+ years of industrial medicinal chemistry experience. This is not a PhD level position.
- A strong knowledge of modern organic synthetic chemistry methods; a good understanding of med chem fundamentals
- Excellence in common purification and analytical techniques
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
- A natural curiosity and desire for learning and growth
