Job Description
AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join its Quantitative, Translation & ADME Sciences (QTAS) team in North Chicago. In this role, you will implement innovative, quantitative approaches to advance translational ADME using conventional and complex in vitro models. Working primarily in a laboratory, you will conduct and contribute to scientific leadership of in vitro assays and apply translational modeling to help drive AbbVie’s global in vitro ADME strategy. You will qualify, confirm, and evaluate new technologies and execute operational activities to support mechanistic and translational understanding of early and late-stage small molecules.
Core responsibilities include:
- Laboratory experimentation in cellular and subcellular models
- Evaluate novel in vitro tools/methods and apply established methods to improve prediction of human PK and DDI potential
- Liaise with QTAS and discovery biology/pharmacology to generate data supporting translational, mechanistic model development
- Communicate internally and externally on in vitro drug metabolism
- Stay current with emerging literature and science in modeling and in vitro approaches
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s (typically 10 years) or Master’s (typically 8 years) or PhD (no experience)
- Strong cell culture experience (hepatocytes and cell lines)
- Deep understanding of drug metabolism and ADME (enzyme kinetics, IVIVE, DDI risk assessment)
- Strong, relevant publication record
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to work independently and as a team player
- Passion for generating ideas, learning, solving technical problems, and applying new technologies
