Senior Scientist I, Mechanical Engineering

Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, integrate, and test instrumentation and subcomponents (pump manifolds, vision systems, high-precision stages, optomechanical assemblies, sensors).
- Lead mechanical design and analysis across all project phases with software and operations teams.
- Diagnose and resolve instrumentation issues during prototyping, production, and operations.
- Develop and oversee testing of design concepts/computer models to validate new and existing systems.
- Acquire, integrate, and analyze system data to ensure hardware and subsystem performance and reliability.
- Use 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks) for design concepts, layouts, assembly drawings, and technical documentation (geometric tolerancing, revision control).
- Interact with suppliers to specify/select components that meet project requirements.
- Communicate with stakeholders to share ideas and improve complex system performance.

Qualifications:
Required:
- BS Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with 10 years; or MS with 8 years; or PhD (no experience required).
- 2+ years developing instrumentation for laboratory, scientific, or medical applications.
- SolidWorks proficiency.
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) proficiency.
- Python or MATLAB proficiency.
- Strong understanding of precision instrument fabrication.
- Thorough understanding of math, physics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail; strong analytical/problem-solving skills.

Preferred:
- Experience with Tecan/Hamilton or similar liquid handling robots.
- LabVIEW or Keyence data acquisition tools experience.
- Optomechanical subsystem design/assembly/evaluation experience.
- FEA or CFD modeling in COMSOL or similar software.
