Role Summary

Tonix Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated scientist in mass spectrometry with knowledge of omics, particularly proteomics and glycomics, and MALDI-MSI. The role is based at the Tonix Research and Development Center in Frederick, Maryland, and involves contributing to therapeutic and biologics development, discovery, production, characterization, and optimization within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Mass Spectrometry-based research projects in a timely and high-quality manner.
  • Aid in expansion of current MS capabilities, including staffing requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of omics (peptide mapping, post-translational modifications, glycan profiling, quantitative analysis) and imaging (sub-cellular, deep content) aspects of multiple projects.
  • Coordinate facility workload with protein sciences, immunology, and pathology teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional project teams, proposing innovative discoveries and optimization strategies within Tonix's pipeline.
  • Uphold company mission and values, emphasizing accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Perform ad-hoc work/special projects as necessary to support Tonix on various business initiatives.
  • Provide complete and correlated records of all MS work across the entire drug developments for internal teams and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Strong accomplishment record demonstrating the ability to perform independent, high-quality, creative, and impactful research in the fields of Mass Spectrometry-based omics
  • Hands-on expertise with Mass Spectrometry-based omics workflows including sample preparation, instrument operation and data processing
  • Proven track record operating Mass Spectrometry systems with extensive expertise in HPLC separation techniques
  • Ability for minimal travel
  • Dedicated team player who can withstand the high demands of a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision

Skills

  • MS-based omics expertise (including sample preparation, instrument operation, and data processing)
  • Experience with omics workflows (peptide mapping, post-translational modifications, glycan profiling, quantitative analysis)
  • Imaging expertise (sub-cellular, deep content) is a plus
  • Strong collaboration and communication abilities

Education

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Glycobiology, Analytical Sciences or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of full-time professional experience, or Master’s degree with minimum 5 years of experience.
