Process engineers support API and natural products projects through all phases of late-stage development, commercialization, and product life cycle. Assess key unit operations (e.g., reactions, crystallizations) for process robustness, scientific understanding, and potential scale-up risks from the lab to a manufacturing environment. Partner cross-functionally (technical, quality, regulatory) and with on-site manufacturing personnel.
Purpose:
- Develop scalable and robust engineering processes for key modalities (small molecule APIs, antibody drug conjugates, peptides, natural products).
- Demonstrate technical expertise and strong communication in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods and techniques.
- Build productive collaborations across scientific disciplines.
Responsibilities:
- Apply chemical engineering principles (chemical kinetics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, mathematical modeling) in experimental design, problem-solving, and data analysis.
- Demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity.
- Perform autonomously in lab experimentation, pilot plant, and/or manufacturing support with minimal supervision.
- Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
- Investigate and troubleshoot product failures; recommend remediation.
- Author publications, presentations, technical reports, regulatory documents, and/or patents.
- Maintain high proficiency across relevant technologies.
- Adhere to safety, materials handling, controlled drug/radioactive compounds, and GxP compliance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert; mentor other engineers.
Qualifications:
- BS, MS, or PhD in chemical engineering (or related) and 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS), or 0+ (PhD) years of relevant industrial experience.
- Thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own discipline.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
