      Role Summary
Senior Scientist, HLA/SLA Laboratory & R&D — Supervises the HLA/SLA laboratory, oversees assay development and validation, trains and supports technologists, maintains QC/QA documentation and regulatory readiness, and contributes to R&D initiatives in translational or commercial research.
 Responsibilities
- Clinical Laboratory Oversight: Manage all aspects of HLA and SLA typing, antibody screening, and compatibility testing; perform assay development and validation studies; maintain QC/QA documentation and regulatory readiness; train and support technologists and junior scientists
 - Research & Development Leadership: Manage strategic R&D projects focused on SLA typing technologies (NGS and Nanopore); supervise development of novel assays (single antigen bead arrays, customized antibody panels); collaborate with academic/commercial/biotech partners on grant writing, publications, and technology transfer
 - Strategic & Administrative Duties: Contribute to laboratory budgets, staffing, and capital planning; direct and manage team of technologists and trainees including goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, mentoring and career development; represent the lab at institutional leadership meetings and translational research symposia; perform other duties including high-resolution HLA/SLA typing using sequencing platforms, Luminex antibody screening, flow cytometric crossmatches, and immune functional assays
 
 Qualifications
- Education and Experience Requirements:
 
- Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or related field with 10+ years of experience, or
 - Master’s degree with 8+ years of experience, or
 - PhD with 5+ years of experience
 
 - 5+ years of experience in a high-complexity clinical lab with leadership
 - Experience with HLA and SLA typing technologies (NGS, Nanopore, PCR-SSP, flow cytometry)
 - Proven record of research productivity, assay development, and/or grant acquisition
 - Familiarity with regulatory requirements for clinical and animal-based immunogenetics
 - Previous managerial experience
 - Knowledge of current biomedical research trends, especially immunology and transplant science
 - Ability to develop and execute strategic R&D plans aligned with organizational goals
 - Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, including bioinformatics and statistical software
