Position Summary:
Senior Scientist, Discovery Biology—Cancer Biologist in Molecular Pharmacology discovery biology team at Protein Homeostasis TRC (San Diego, CA). Primarily bench-facing cancer biology role supporting discovery of targeted protein degradation drugs for solid tumors.
Position Responsibilities:
- Formulate mechanistic hypotheses using literature/internal data; design and execute experiments
- Establish and run techniques/assays to understand mechanism of action
- Develop new drug discovery projects using literature and existing datasets
- Use/develop disease models for target validation and SAR support
- Collaborate across informatics and translational research to generate testable hypotheses
- Maintain written reports and present results in an organized/timely manner
- Communicate effectively, foster teamwork, and contribute to project strategy
- Demonstrate quality commitment and adaptability
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s + 7+ years academic/industry OR Master’s + 5+ years OR Ph.D. (Life Sciences) + 2+ years
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
- Ph.D. in cancer biology/related field; 3+ years cancer biology/oncology target validation and/or drug discovery
- Knowledge of molecular cancer drivers; solid tumor preclinical models (2D/3D spheroids/organoids; cancer stem cells)
- Experience with CRISPR technologies and cloning; strong molecular/cell biology
- Cell culture and plate-based assays (e.g., CTG, annexin V), CRISPR/RNAi, cloning; lentiviral expression, qPCR, western blotting, FACS, immunofluorescence, live-cell imaging
- Windows/MS Office/graphing software (e.g., Prism)
- Plus: targeted protein degradation/molecular glue approaches; publication record
