The Gastroenterology group within AbbVie’s Immunology therapeutic area seeks a Senior Scientist II to join our GI group in Worcester, MA. This position serves as a people leader responsible for interfacing with project teams and prioritizing and deploying resources to support internal programs.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as biology lead for GI programs, providing scientific leadership and data-driven rationale to support program advancement.
- Understand complex GI in vitro models and translate scientific and operational needs into prioritized resource plans.
- Independently identify and resolve technical challenges; conceive and implement novel experimental approaches.
- Adapt quickly to evolving program priorities and experimental needs.
- Prepare clear data packages, slides, and presentations for meetings.
- Generate data in a timely manner; communicate results across departments and maintain accurate experimental records.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal/global/external collaborators.
- Supervise 2–3 scientists, including performance management, coaching, and development.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Immunology/Biology (2–5 years post-doc) OR Bachelor’s/Master’s (15+ years) in biology/related.
- Required: extensive experience with primary cell cultures and in vitro cell-based assays; preferred: primary intestinal epithelial cells/intestinal organoids, intestinal fibroblast, and human immune cells.
- Preferred: experience with complex in vitro models.
- Experience managing direct reports and development opportunities.
- Program management experience in an industry setting.
- Strong relationship-building and cross-functional collaboration in a matrixed organization.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving; results-oriented, “can-do” attitude with strong urgency.
