Responsibilities:
- Execute routine 2D and 3D PSC expansion, passaging and directed SC-islet differentiation
- Design optimization experiments to achieve a scalable, robust 3D SC-islet differentiation process compliant with manufacturing standards
- Optimize differentiation protocol to achieve highly pure on-target populations
- Perform hands-on work with closed systems (tube welder, sealer, single-use assemblies)
- Set up, operate, automate, and control bioreactor processes (DO, pH, perfusion, agitation)
- Collaborate with team members and communicate findings
- Maintain scientific documentation and contribute to SOP development
- Ensure compliance with lab safety and biosafety regulations
Qualifications:
- PhD in stem cell biology, biochemical/biomedical engineering, or related field; 3β5 years of direct cell therapy industry experience
- Significant experience operating bioreactors for suspension culture
- Experience with bioreactor control software, process development tools, or DOE-based optimization (preferred)
- Significant experience operating closed cell culture systems
- Significant experience in flow cytometry and immunofluorescent staining
- Proficient with flow cytometry and imaging software (e.g., FACSDiva, FlowJo, ImageJ, Halo)
Preferred/Additional:
- Knowledge/experience in directed differentiation toward pancreatic islet lineage
- Proven ability to optimize differentiation yield and reproducibility across platforms
- Passion for GMP transition, automation, and continuous process improvement
- Strong cross-functional collaboration; interest in advancing cell therapies to the clinic
- Significant experience operating large bioreactors (15L+)
Compensation:
- Base pay range: $160,000β$190,000/year (varies by factors including location, skills, and experience).
