Role Summary

Pfizer's biotherapeutic informatics team is seeking a driven and dynamic informatics scientist with robust skills in application design and data management. This role requires a solid grasp of the fundamentals of modern protein biology and biochemistry as well as strong software engineering capabilities. Your expertise will be pivotal in advancing our R&D platform for Pfizer’s BioMedicine Design group. You'll collaborate with scientists and developers to design innovative solutions that capture and extract valuable insights from diverse datasets, supporting the development and testing of hypotheses from early discovery to selection of clinical candidates. We are looking for an adaptable individual excited to explore new challenges and contribute to high impact scientific advances. Location: Hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists, project leaders, and engineers to develop user-friendly tools for scientific analysis and data management.
  • Enable scientists to ensure that their data is AI-ready
  • Build APIs, user interfaces, libraries, and executables using various programming languages.
  • Modernize existing systems and ensure codebase scalability and sustainability.
  • Adapt swiftly to evolving scientific requirements and technologies.
  • Implement database and warehousing solutions in partnership with data professionals.
  • Leverage AI for coding, debugging, and enhancing solutions.

Qualifications

  • Required: PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field or BA/MS with 2+ years of professional experience
  • Required: Comprehensive understanding of software engineering best practices, including writing clean, maintainable code
  • Required: Proficient in frontend development (using React or similar frameworks) and backend development (Java, Python)
  • Required: Solid knowledge of SQL and relational database technology, capable of designing relational schemas and complex queries
  • Required: Strong communication skills, especially in cross-functional settings
  • Required: Motivated to learn and rapidly advance at the nexus of data management and AI
  • Preferred: Experience in building user-friendly applications that support complex scientific workflows
  • Preferred: Background in protein or antibody informatics
  • Preferred: Familiarity with modern cloud-based technologies for optimizing data management and enabling AI tooling
