Senior Scientist, Bioinformatics (Analytical Development)
Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver bioinformatics solutions across Insmed Gene Therapy discovery and development programs.
- Design, develop, and maintain NGS bioinformatics pipelines (WGS, WES, bulk/single-cell/spatial transcriptomics, epigenomics).
- Analyze data and develop interpretation reports (comparability, AAV characterization, potency cell line characterization).
- Collaborate with R&D to develop bioinformatics platforms for molecular biomarker identification/validation (disease mechanisms, patient stratification, therapeutic response).
- Apply analytical and statistical rigor for experimental design and result interpretation.
- Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders; contribute to publications, regulatory submissions, and internal reports.
- Mentor and train associate scientists.
- Promote data integrity using current best practices for data handling/storage.
- Manage code/results documentation with Git and GMP-aligned methods.
- Independently organize and lead projects; provide updates to decision makers.
- Support qualification/validation activities for bioinformatics pipelines and systems.
Qualifications:
- PhD with 5+ years industry experience OR Master’s with 6 years OR Bachelor’s with 8 years.
Skills/Experience (required):
- NGS analysis experience (PacBio, Element Biosciences).
- Bayesian statistics expertise.
- Collaborative coding with Git.
- Production-quality code in Python, R, JavaScript, Go, or Rust.
- Python testing frameworks (pytest/unittest).
- Cloud tool development (gcloud, AWS, Azure).
- Containerized code deployment (Docker).
- Workflow management systems (Snakemake, Nextflow, CWL).
Nice to have:
- Degree in related field; software development/release for others.
- SQL/structured data experience.
- Machine learning familiarity.
- Single-cell/spatial analysis (Seurat/Scanpy).
- Regulatory requirements knowledge (FDA/EMA).
- FAIR data and bioinformatics standards; GAMP5/risk-based validation.
