The Screening & Compound Profiling group (Research Laboratories site, Rahway, NJ) seeks an Automation Scientist to join the Automation & Informatics team.

Responsibilities:
- Independently operate automated systems to execute biochemical and cell-based assays accurately and efficiently; ensure data integrity, traceability, and quality.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize automated systems and workflows to expand target/lead discovery across therapeutic areas (oncology, immunology, neuroscience, cardiometabolic, infectious disease).
- Use technical judgment to identify workflow issues, troubleshoot complex hardware/process problems, and implement improvements to increase reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
- Use data visualization tools to analyze and present experimental results.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to implement new assays/workflows on automation platforms; provide training/technical guidance as needed.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Biomedical Engineering or similar; ~10 years relevant experience in laboratory automation.
- Or M.S.; ~7 years relevant experience in laboratory automation. Equivalent education + hands-on automation experience considered.

Required skills/experience:
- HTS/high-throughput automation platform experience (robotic systems, liquid/plate handlers, incubators).
- Instrumentation expertise (low-volume bulk dispensers, acoustic sample transfer devices, detectors in standalone/integrated modes).
- Experience supporting biochemical and/or cell-based assays and/or arrayed CRISPR screens in an HTS context.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance for complex instrumentation (including vendor/service providers).
- Strong troubleshooting (automation hardware, basic software, workflow-level problems) with root-cause resolution.
- Optimize workflows for efficiency, reliability, robustness; high attention to data quality/documentation and SOP adherence.
- Prioritize multiple requests; operate independently to meet timelines.
- Communicate/collaborate; provide technical guidance/training.

Preferred skills:
- Cellario Scheduler (HighRes integrated automation platforms).
- Beckman Access with Tempo.
- Mosaic Sample Management with Tempo Fulfillment Module (TFM).
- Apply emerging technologies (including agentic AI) to improve workflows and scalability.
