Join the Discovery Science department to discover and validate novel drug targets for inflammatory diseases using genetics, -omics, and cellular approaches in a collaborative environment. This role sits within Human Genetics and Targets and contributes to therapeutic innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and execute biological assays and in vitro models to discover and evaluate novel pathways and targets for inflammatory disease drug discovery.
  • Perform mechanism-of-action studies using cell biology/signaling, molecular biology, and immunology approaches.
  • Engineer human cell models (e.g., CRISPR) for functional screening and mechanistic studies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, design, execute, analyze, document experiments and communicate results in team settings.
  • Stay current with scientific literature, contribute to the publication of research findings, and present at scientific conferences.
  • Mentor/train junior colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Required: B.S./M.S. in biological/biomedical sciences with 7+ years of hands-on experience; recent Ph.D. graduates (less than 2 years) considered.
  • Required: Extensive experience with in vitro cell-based assays using cell lines, primary cells, and stem cells/iPS. Preference for experience with primary intestinal cells, human immune cells, and advanced in vitro models such as intestinal organoids/spheroids, microphysiological systems, cocultures, and barrier models.
  • Required: Experience with imaging technologies.
  • Required: Solid background in molecular biology, cell signaling and immunology, preferably in inflammatory disease areas.
  • Required: Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Required: Proficient in experimental design, troubleshooting, data analysis, statistical/bioinformatics tools, and attention to detail.
  • Required: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to shifting priorities, learning agility, and passion for science.

Desirable Skills

  • Proven track record in inflammation research, particularly therapeutic discovery in inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Experience with functional studies using primary human or rodent cells, ex vivo tissue-based assays.
  • Experience with advanced omics platforms (spatial transcriptomics, single-cell RNA-seq, etc.), familiarity with machine learning or systems biology approaches, and population-scale genetic datasets.
  • Demonstrated track record of scientific publications and conference presentations.

Education

  • Not specified beyond degree requirements in Qualifications.
