Role Summary

Senior Scientific Director for R&D Data and AI Convergence Strategy. Lead scientific and strategic objectives for the Convergence organization within AbbVie’s R&D data and AI initiatives, collaborating across functions to advance data-driven insights and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • As the scientific leader for the Convergence organization, develop and execute strategies to generate and deploy novel analysis of large, cross-functional, internal and external datasets to advance AbbVie’s R&D objectives.
  • Establish relationships with leaders across R&D to align Convergence scientific strategy with functional strategies.
  • Partner with senior R&D leaders to ensure alignment with functional objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Lead the cross-functional team of R&D Data & Digital Catalysts, ensuring their work aligns with the Convergence strategy.
  • Anticipate challenges and prioritize emerging scientific and technology trends; champion innovative approaches.
  • Partner with Information Research to build technologies and capabilities for large data sets and advanced analytics.
  • Lead cross-functional exchange of scientific knowledge, advising and sharing expert opinions.
  • Establish scientific standards positioning AbbVie as a global industry leader; drive standard changes through senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with BTS Partnership leaders to connect with external scientific leaders and exchange visions of technology.
  • Develop industry reputation as a key opinion leader; participate in international meetings and standards committees.
  • Mentor junior scientists in alignment with Convergence strategy.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a scientific discipline with at least 14 years of relevant experience; or Master’s with at least 20 years; or Bachelor’s with at least 22 years.
  • Proven ability to innovate with a robust publication history.
  • Ability to advise and influence discipline experts and leaders across AbbVie.
  • Strong collaboration across diverse functions and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and presentations.
  • Interpersonal skills capable of negotiating and reconciling interdisciplinary differences to optimize AbbVie goals.
