Role Summary
Senior Research Associate I/II – In Vivo responsible for executing pivotal proof-of-concept studies in pre-clinical mouse models of inflammation, immunology, and oncology, and supporting cross-functional development of research strategy. Designs and executes in vivo/ex vivo pharmacology studies to define activity and mechanism of action of compounds. Primarily based in the Animal Care Facility with hours around 10am-6pm, including afternoon/evening and weekend dosing as part of study protocols. Opportunity to perform ex vivo/in vitro experiments to expand bench skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic and intermediate veterinary technical tasks in mice independently.
- Administer agents by PO, IP, and SC routes.
- Perform blood sampling via multiple routes, including submandibular bleed.
- Carry out tissue harvests at designated time points.
- Prepare compound formulations for in vivo dosing.
- Optimize and perform studies to define target biology in mouse models of inflammation, oncology, and immunity for in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo applications.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records/notebooks, procedures, and data summaries.
- Perform evening and weekend dosing of animals as part of study protocols.
- Conduct health checks to ensure animal welfare and identify concerns.
- Carry out tissue harvests at later time points as required.
- Prepare and perform formulations for dosing studies.
- Oversee breeding programs, monitor litters, and document outcomes.
- Assist with cage changes and husbandry tasks as needed.
- Process time-sensitive biological samples.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Biology, Pharmacology, Animal Science, or related field with minimum 4 years of relevant industry experience.
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level preferred; LVT qualification a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience handling compounds for formulation preparation with safety emphasis and calculation proficiency.
- Strong experience in animal handling, including compound administration by multiple routes, tissue and blood harvesting, and necropsy techniques; surgical techniques a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in culturing mammalian cell lines is advantageous.
- Experience with pharmacodynamics assays of mouse tissue (e.g., Western Blotting or JESS, ELISA/Mesoscale, and flow cytometry) is a plus but not required.
- Willingness to learn new benchwork skills, including sample processing and cell culture.
