Role Summary

Senior Research and Development Chemist at Serina Therapeutics, on-site in Huntsville, AL. Lead and execute advanced research initiatives to develop innovative synthetic and polymer chemistry, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive product development.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct novel organic and polymer chemistries to support and build the company’s proprietary polymer platform and pipeline.
  • Develop scalable synthetic processes that could eventually lead to commercialization.
  • Characterize, solve problems and interpret analytical data from HPLC, GC, MALDI, and NMR.
  • Maintain chemistry laboratory and inventories in accordance with good laboratory procedures.
  • Partner with management on research findings and propose next steps.
  • Maintain knowledge of latest technology and scientific trends.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and stakeholders, addressing technical challenges and ensuring timely material delivery.
  • Prepare, analyze, and report on key R&D metrics, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems and protocols to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance with statutory and industry requirements.
  • Address and resolve escalated technical issues from internal and external sources.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Organic or Polymer Chemistry from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-doctoral experience in academia or industry; GMP experience is a plus.
  • Proven track record of scientific accomplishments (publications or patents).
  • Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Excel/Word; ChemDraw strongly desired.
  • Advanced analytical knowledge with instruments like NMR, GC, and HPLC.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team; experience writing scientific documents.
  • Physical ability to work with chemicals; capable of wearing respiratory protection as required.
  • Some travel up to 10% to manufacturing sites.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills; proficient with laboratory equipment and R&D software.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
