Role Summary

Senior Principal, Process Safety Engineer – Lilly Medicine Foundry. Provides technical leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Lilly’s Globally Integrated Process Safety Management programs and business processes for the Lilly Medicine Foundry.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to enhance process safety performance and influence culture.
  • Provide technical expertise for process safety activities (e.g., combustible dust, emergency management, risk assessments, facility siting, EPA RMP).
  • Serve as a technical expert for capital projects and facility/equipment design, including hazard assessments for design and pre-commissioning.
  • Develop and implement process safety programs/procedures and training.
  • Influence, coach, and mentor cross-functional partners to ensure Process Safety Management programs are executed.
  • Lead or participate in governance, project, and committee meetings.
  • Participate in audits/inspections; interact with regulators, auditors, and customers; address gaps from audits/inspections.
  • Own/coordinate Process Safety Management element reviews and site self-assessments.
  • Support event management by assessing process safety events and completing actions.
  • Support change management by reviewing change requests and completing actions.
  • Lead/participate on corporate teams to develop guidelines or tools to enhance PSM performance.
  • Build relationships with external PSM resources to bring external focus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6-8 years of safety or related experience supporting chemical processes/operations.
  • Strong technical understanding of chemical unit process operations; OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulatory requirements; PSM/RMP elements and tools.
  • Understanding of change management and its impact on process safety.
  • Knowledge of equipment reliability and mechanical integrity concepts/issues.
  • Technical writing experience (procedure/program development and documentation).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to lead technical teams.
  • Proficiency in computer applications; collaborative work with others.

Additional Preferences

  • Engineering license and/or professional safety certification(s).
  • Experience integrating PSM issues into capital projects.
  • Global process safety auditing experience.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigative techniques and leadership.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, occupational safety, or equivalent science degree.

Additional Information

  • Must complete Learning Plan– Foundry.
  • Access to manufacturing and laboratory areas requires appropriate PPE.
  • Position supports 24 hours/day manufacturing; must carry a cell phone.
  • Location: Lebanon, IN site with flexibility to work from Indianapolis through 2025-2026.
