Senior Principal AI Engineer

Role: Senior Principal AI Engineer focused on developing and optimizing shared enterprise AI platform capabilities, enabling AI-enabled products and workflows across Vertex. Responsibilities include building frameworks, SDKs, and tools for creating, integrating, and operationalizing custom agents; developing platform services for model integration, prompt orchestration, and agent lifecycle management; establishing standards, APIs, and governance controls; and enhancing developer experience through documentation and self-service resources. The role involves designing scalable, secure, and reliable systems supporting enterprise AI initiatives, integrating foundation models, and implementing observability, monitoring, and performance optimization. Collaborates with cross-functional teams in product, data, security, and architecture to translate prototypes into production services, ensuring responsible AI practices and technical standards. Qualifications: Bachelor’s in CS, Software Engineering, or related; extensive experience in AI/ML platform development, distributed systems, cloud-native apps, and enterprise AI operationalization; proven leadership in complex technical initiatives; strong communication skills. Technical expertise required in AI/ML architecture, large language models, agent frameworks, prompt engineering, workflow automation, model benchmarking, observability, distributed systems, and cloud deployment. Preferred: advanced degrees, experience with enterprise AI tools, developer platform design, AI governance, regulated industry experience, and mentorship capabilities. Salary range: $188K-$282K. The role involves designing scalable platforms supporting internal teams with a focus on extensibility, developer experience, governance, and operational excellence.
