Role Summary
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is an integral member of the medical affairs team in a field-based role supporting the development and life-cycle management of Takeda Oncology medicines. The role engages scientifically with key opinion leaders in the assigned geography to exchange accurate, scientific, non-promotional information. Territory coverage includes Michigan and Indiana, with the Detroit metro area preferred.
Responsibilities
- Apply subject matter knowledge and adaptive communication to support medical strategies for Takeda compounds in hematology, focusing on colorectal cancer, and respond to unsolicited medical information requests from external stakeholders.
- Develop and leverage thought leader relationships to meet the strategic needs of US Medical Affairs.
- Provide medical insights and intelligence from the field to support development and lifecycle management of Takeda Oncology medicines.
- Participate in, lead, and contribute to projects within a matrix environment to increase value and productivity of US Medical Affairs Oncology (USMAO).
- Establish relationships and engage in peer-to-peer scientific discussions on emerging data, guidelines, pathways, mechanisms of action, outcomes, and research opportunities related to Takeda Oncology products.
- Formulate and maintain a territory engagement plan aligned with US Field Medical priorities and integrated medical strategy; execute the plan accordingly.
- Regularly collect medical insights from scientific exchanges with HCPs and the medical community; document insights promptly for internal stakeholders.
- Respond to unsolicited inquiries in accordance with field medical SOPs.
- Support Takeda Oncology sponsored research and assist in identifying and evaluating research sites for clinical investigations.
- Contribute to executing USMAO strategy at medical conferences and identify potential sites for future studies.
- Present accurate, fair-balanced scientific information to external stakeholders in various settings, including one-on-one interactions and Takeda-sponsored engagements.
- Complete required training, documentation, and administrative responsibilities.
- Daily entry to hospitals and medical facilities, adhering to credentialing and immunization requirements as part of facility access.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific or healthcare degree required; doctoral degree preferred (PharmD, PhD, MD, NP, DMP/ARNP, etc.).
- Experience in Oncology preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years field medical experience preferred; pharmaceutical industry experience required.
- Superior communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to earn trust from peers and supervisors.
- Proficiency in technical and scientific language to communicate with KOLs, Medical Affairs, R&D, and other stakeholders.
Travel and Additional Requirements
- Ability to drive or fly to various meetings and client sites; overnight travel 50-60%, including some weekends; travel may vary by geography.
- Daily presence in hospitals and medical facilities; compliance with credentialing, training, background checks, and immunization requirements as applicable.
