Role Summary

Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) serving as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community, establishing and maintaining relationships with HCPs to disseminate clinical and scientific information about Vertex compounds in a timely, ethical, and stakeholder-focused manner. Contributes to shaping the medical plan, designs and executes the Medical Affairs strategy, engages HCPs for scientific educational and research needs, and provides the latest emerging data in response to inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fosters relationships with Thought Leaders and engages other appropriate HCPs, enabling scientific engagement with a broad network of CF care providers and opinion leaders; understands inter-relationships within and between academic centers to enhance TL and HCP engagements
  • Incorporates all aspects of the Scientific Engagement Model (SEM) into interactions to enhance engagement quality and relationships
  • Integrates the medical plan into interactions and territory planning; captures feedback in CRM to inform internal stakeholders and shape medical strategy
  • Understands CRM system/data analytics tools to capture interaction details promptly and uses analytics to improve future TL engagements and workload management
  • Discusses scientific information compliantly with external stakeholders at an advanced level for disease state and product
  • Possesses deep knowledge of payers in the region and understanding of payer impact on patient care delivery
  • Assists clinical development/operations by understanding IB content, presenting IB material at SIV meetings, nominating trial sites, and providing end-of-study data reviews as needed
  • Represents Vertex at medical congresses with session/abstract coverage, booth staffing, TL interactions; may lead congress logistics and debriefs
  • May mentor or train colleagues, including new hire MSL onboarding
  • Performs all activities in compliance with Vertex policies; completes administrative tasks timely (CRM entries, mileage, expenses, calendar entries, training, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Minimum: advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of experience as an MSL or in medical affairs within pharma/biotech, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area is helpful
  • Fluent in English and local language (oral and written)
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 70%, depending on geography; including occasional weekend travel

  • Knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research

Education

  • Advanced degree in biomedical or life sciences required (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)

Additional Requirements

  • Travel up to 70% overnight, including occasional weekend travel
