Role Summary

Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) serving as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community, establishing and maintaining relationships with Health Care Providers/Professionals to disseminate clinical and scientific information regarding Vertex compounds in a timely, ethical and stakeholder-focused manner. Contributes to shaping the medical plan by providing external stakeholder insights and assisting in designing and executing the Medical Affairs strategy and plan. Engages HCPs in response to scientific educational and research needs with Vertex resources and provides the latest emerging data in response to inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fosters effective relationships with Thought Leaders and engages other appropriate HCPs to result in scientific engagement with a network of CF care providers and opinion leaders; understands inter-relationships within and between academic centers to enhance TL and HCP engagements
  • Incorporates all aspects of the SEM (Scientific Engagement Model) into interactions to enhance quality of interactions and overall relationships
  • Incorporates the medical plan into interactions and territory planning; captures feedback in the CRM to inform internal stakeholders and shape medical strategy
  • Understands CRM/data analytics tools to capture interaction details and uses analytics to enhance future TL engagements and manage workload
  • Discusses scientific information compliantly with external stakeholders at an advanced level of communication for disease state and product
  • Possesses knowledge of payers in the region and understanding of the impact of payers on patient care delivery
  • Assists clinical development/clinical operations by understanding IB content, presenting IB material at SIV meetings, nominating trial sites, and providing end of study data reviews with investigators
  • Represents Vertex at medical congresses with session/abstract coverage, booth staffing, TL interactions, and prepares conference debriefs; may lead congress logistics
  • Mentor or train colleagues with less experience; assist with new hire MSL onboarding
  • Performs all activities in compliance with Vertex policy and completes administrative tasks (CRM entry, mileage, expenses, calendar entries, training, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English and local language (oral and written)
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 70%, depending on geography; occasional weekend travel
  • Minimum advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
  • Typically at least 5 years of experience as an MSL or in medical affairs roles in pharma/biotech
  • Experience in designated therapeutic area is helpful

Education

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
