Role Summary

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) (Nephrology) supports Povetacicept programs and acts as a scientific liaison to the medical and academic community. Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with Health Care Providers/Professionals (HCPs) to disseminate clinical and scientific information ethically and promptly. Contributes to shaping the medical plan and executing the Medical Affairs strategy, engaging HCPs to address scientific educational and research needs with available Vertex resources.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fosters effective relationships with Thought Leaders and engages other appropriate HCPs, resulting in extensive scientific engagement with nephrology care providers and opinion leaders.
  • Incorporates the Scientific Engagement Model (SEM) into interactions to enhance engagement quality and relationships.
  • Integrates the medical plan into interactions and territory planning, capturing feedback in the CRM to inform strategy.
  • Understands CRM/data analytics tools to capture interaction details and inform future TL engagements and workload management.
  • Communicates scientific information compliantly and effectively with external stakeholders on disease state and product knowledge.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of payers in the region and the impact of payers on patient care delivery.
  • Assists clinical development/clinical operations by understanding IB content, presenting IB material, nominating trial sites, and providing end-of-study data reviews as needed.
  • Represents Vertex at medical congresses with scientific session/abstract coverage, TL interactions, and conference debriefs; may provide logistical guidance.
  • May mentor or train colleagues, including new hire MSL onboarding.
  • Performs all activities in compliance with Vertex policies, and completes administrative tasks timely (CRM entry, mileage/expense reporting, calendar entries, training, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Minimum: advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA).
  • 3–4 years of experience as an MSL supporting Nephrology programs or in other medical affairs roles in pharma/biotech, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area is helpful.

  • Ability to present clinical/scientific information credibly in varied settings.
  • Strong knowledge of the assigned geographic territory and healthcare regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of T1D management protocols, healthcare landscape, and ability to articulate medical/scientific value of products.
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks governing the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of payers and medical information needs to support access and appropriate use of Vertex medicines.
  • Knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).

Education

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree required (e.g., Masters, NP, PA).
