Role Summary

Senior Medical Science Liaison (Nephrology) focusing on Povetacicept programs, including IgA Nephropathy (IgAN). Serves as scientific liaison to medical/academic community, establishing relationships with HCPs to disseminate clinical and scientific information in a timely, ethical and stakeholder-focused manner. Contributes to shaping the medical plan and executing Medical Affairs strategy, engaging HCPs for educational and research needs, and providing latest data upon inquiry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and foster relationships with Thought Leaders and HCPs to enable scientific engagement with a broad network of clinicians and opinion leaders.
  • Incorporate Scientific Engagement Model (SEM) in interactions to enhance quality and relationships.
  • Integrate medical plan into interactions and territory planning; capture feedback in CRM to inform medical strategy.
  • Understand CRM/data analytics tools to document interactions and inform future engagements.
  • Discuss scientific information compliantly with external stakeholders across disease state and product.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of payers and their impact on patient care; assist in access considerations.
  • Support clinical development/operations by understanding IB content, nominating trial sites, and providing data reviews as needed.
  • Represent Vertex at medical congresses with session/abstract coverage and TL interactions; assist with logistics and debriefs.
  • Mentor or train colleagues; assist with onboarding for new hires as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with Vertex policies and complete administrative tasks (CRM entries, mileage, expenses, calendar, training).

Qualifications

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA).
  • Minimum 3–4 years of experience as an MSL supporting Nephrology programs or related medical affairs roles in pharma/biotech, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area is helpful.

  • Knowledge of T1D management protocols and the healthcare landscape; articulate medical and scientific value of products.
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks governing the pharmaceutical industry; conduct compliant interactions.
  • Knowledge of payers and medical information needs to support access and appropriate use of Vertex medicines.
  • Knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).

Education

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA).

Additional Requirements

  • Experience in Nephrology/MsL roles preferred; travel as required by field responsibilities.
