Role Summary
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) (Nephrology) for Povetacicept programs. Povetacicept is an enhanced, dual BAFF/APRIL inhibitor in pivotal development for the treatment of IgA Nephropathy (IgAN). The Sr MSL will serve as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community and establish and maintain relationships with Health Care Providers/Professionals to disseminate clinical and scientific information about Vertex compounds in a timely, ethical, and stakeholder-focused manner. They will contribute to shaping the medical plan by providing external stakeholders' insights and contribute to the design and execution of the Medical Affairs strategy and plan, engaging HCPs in response to educational and research needs with Vertex resources and providing the latest emerging data in response to inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Develops and fosters relationships with Thought Leaders and engages other appropriate HCPs, resulting in scientific engagement with a large network of T1D and transplant-team care providers and opinion leaders; understands inter-relationships within and between academic centers to enhance engagements
- Incorporates all aspects of the SEM (Scientific Engagement Model) into interactions to enhance quality and relationships
- Integrates the medical plan into interactions and territory planning, capturing feedback in CRM to inform internal stakeholders and shape medical strategy
- Understands CRM/data analytics tools to capture interaction details and use analytics to enhance TL engagements and manage workload
- Discusses scientific information compliantly with external stakeholders at an advanced level for disease state and product
- Possesses knowledge of payers in the region and understanding of payer impact on patient care delivery
- Assists clinical development/clinical operations by understanding IB content, presenting IB material, nominating trial sites, and providing end-of-study data reviews as needed
- Represents Vertex at medical congresses with session/abstract coverage, TL interactions, summaries, and may provide logistical guidance for abstracts/sessions and debriefs
- Mentors or trains colleagues with less experience (e.g., new hire MSL onboarding)
- Conducts activities in compliance with Vertex policies; completes administrative tasks (CRM entry, mileage, expenses, calendar entries, training)

- Fluent in English (oral and written)
Education
- Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
- 3–4 years of experience as an MSL supporting Nephrology programs or in medical affairs in pharma/biotech, or equivalent
- Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area is helpful
