Role Summary

Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) - Nephrology for Povetacicept programs, focusing on IgA Nephropathy (IgAN). Serves as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community, establishing and maintaining relationships with healthcare providers to disseminate clinical and scientific information in a timely, ethical, and stakeholder-focused manner. Contributes to shaping the medical plan and executing the Medical Affairs strategy, engaging HCPs to address scientific and research needs and providing latest data in response to inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fosters effective relationships with Thought Leaders and other appropriate HCPs, engaging a large network of TLs and transplant-team care providers; understands inter-relationships within and between academic centers to enhance engagements
  • Incorporates all aspects of the Scientific Engagement Model into interactions to enhance quality and relationships
  • Incorporates medical plan into interactions and territory planning; captures feedback in CRM to inform internal stakeholders and shape the medical strategy
  • Understands CRM/data analytics tools for time-sensitive capture of interaction details; uses analytics to enhance TL engagements and manage workload
  • Discusses scientific information compliantly with external stakeholders at an advanced level for disease state and product
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of payers in the region and impact on patient care delivery
  • Assists clinical development/clinical operations by understanding IB content, presenting IB material, nominating trial sites, and providing end-of-study data reviews as needed
  • Represents Vertex at medical congresses with session/abstract coverage, TL interactions, and congress debriefs; may provide logistical guidance for coverage planning
  • May mentor or train colleagues, including onboarding for new hires
  • Conducts all activities in compliance with Vertex policies; performs administrative tasks including CRM entry, mileage, expenses, calendar entries, and trainings

Qualifications

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
  • 3–4 years of experience as an MSL supporting Nephrology programs or in other medical affairs roles in pharma/biotech, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area is helpful

  • Knowledge of payers and medical information needs to support access and appropriate use of Vertex medicines
  • Knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

Education

  • Advanced degree in biomedical or life sciences (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
  • 3–4 years of relevant MSL experience in Nephrology or related medical affairs roles; additional therapeutic area experience is helpful
