Role Summary

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) (Nephrology) supports Povetacicept programs, serving as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community and establishing relationships with Health Care Providers/Professionals (HCPs) to disseminate clinical and scientific information in a timely, ethical and stakeholder-focused manner. Contributes to shaping the medical plan and Medical Affairs strategy; engages HCPs to address scientific educational and research needs and provides the latest data in response to inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fosters relationships with Thought Leaders (TL) and other HCPs to engage a broad network of care providers and opinion leaders; understands inter- center relationships to enhance TL and HCP engagements.
  • Incorporates the Scientific Engagement Model (SEM) into interactions to improve engagement quality and relationships.
  • Integrates the medical plan into interactions and territory planning; captures feedback in CRM to inform internal stakeholders and help shape medical strategy.
  • Understands CRM/data analytics tools to capture interaction details and use analytics to plan TL engagements and manage workload.
  • Communicates scientific information compliantly and effectively with external stakeholders across disease states and products.
  • Gains in-depth knowledge of payers and their impact on patient care delivery.
  • Assists clinical development/clinical operations by understanding IB content, presenting IB material, nominating trial sites, and providing end-of-study data reviews as needed.
  • Represents Vertex at medical congresses with scientific session coverage, TL interactions, and post-congress summaries; may organize and deliver conference debriefs.
  • May mentor or train colleagues; supports new hire MSL onboarding.
  • Performs all activities in compliance with Vertex policies; completes administrative tasks timely (CRM entry, mileage, expenses, calendar, training, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA) required.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of experience as an MSL supporting Nephrology or related medical affairs roles in pharma/biotech, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area is helpful.

  • Understanding of compliance/regulatory frameworks in pharmaceutical interactions.
  • Knowledge of payers and medical information needs to support access and appropriate use of Vertex medicines.
  • Knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research; fluent in English (oral and written).

Education

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree required (e.g., Masters, NP, PA).
