Role Summary

The Senior Medical Director for Global Medical Device provides strategic leadership in developing the medical strategy for the ThecaFlex DRx System, an implantable intrathecal catheter and related devices. The role reports to the Head of Global Medical for Rare Disease and focuses on developing and implementing a global medical strategy to advance patient-centered device solutions, while fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain close partnerships with key medical experts and healthcare providers to inform the Global Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Develop and implement medical strategies for devices.
  • Oversee evidence generation plans specific to device value.
  • Partner with therapeutic area Medical Directors to integrate devices into therapy strategies.
  • Generate medical insights to inform strategic and tactical plans across functions.
  • Lead high-impact medical activities, including advisory boards, medical education, and research projects.
  • Collaborate with clinical device units and clinical development teams to support development programs and enhance site engagement activities.
  • Support scientific communications in the development and execution of publication plans for impactful data dissemination and education strategies.
  • Identify and advance collaborations with external stakeholders, including healthcare and patient advocacy organizations.
  • Foster a positive team climate in alignment with Biogen’s culture.

Qualifications

  • Required: Advanced degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent).
  • Required: 8+ years of industry experience, preferably in Headquarters-based Medical Affairs, Scientific Affairs, or Field clinical engineering roles.
  • Required: Relevant experience in the medical device industry.
  • Required: Expertise in developing, communicating, and executing comprehensive medical affairs plans.
  • Required: Proven ability to build productive collaborations with medical experts.
  • Required: Strong working knowledge of US and ex-US regulations relevant to Medical Affairs.
  • Required: Agility, self-starter mindset, and comfort operating in ambiguous settings.
  • Required: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Required: Proven track record of delivering results that meet or exceed objectives.
  • Required: Ability to travel 30-40%.
  • Preferred: Experience with medical launches and products at different lifecycle stages.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and collaborate with global, regional, and affiliate medical teams.
  • Preferred: Project management skills with initiative to solve complex and challenging problems.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel willingness and ability to engage with external stakeholders up to 30-40% of time.
