Role Summary

Senior Manager, Worldwide Medical Hematology, Medical Communications. Responsible for planning and timely execution of scientifically accurate and strategically aligned communications plans that support medical communication needs of the markets related to specified asset(s) in Worldwide Medical Hematology.

Responsibilities

  • Leads across the BMS matrix to develop and timely deliver strategically aligned medical publications, scientific content, medical information, medical education, training content, and congress presentations.
  • Ensures endorsement of medical communications plans by relevant governance bodies prior to execution, and continuously develops and maintains plans in conjunction with scientific landscape and in alignment with Local Market Medical, Worldwide Medical and medical market-level strategy.
  • Serves as the Medical Communications point of contact between WW and other matrix partners.
  • Provides medical communications management oversight.
  • Enhances bi-directional communication by understanding and sharing the WW medical communications plans to Medical and raises needs to WW Medical/Medical Communications teams, ensuring country/global level of awareness and connectivity including vendor oversight.
  • Understands communication needs and owns the pull-through and execution of the Scientific Narrative, development and execution of a functionally integrated publication plan, content plan, and application to the Scientific Communication Platform (SCP).
  • Must have strong business acumen, ability to interface with market matrix partners and manage Medical Communications budget.

Data Dissemination

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to internal audiences related to communication landscape, HCP preferences, publication and scientific content planning, data disclosure/dissemination, and represent BMS scientific communications to external investigators, key authors and journal editors.
  • Promote and reinforce principles among authors and internal publication stakeholder community, ensuring publications are authored, written, and reviewed according to publication best practices and BMS standards and policies, ensuring alignment with Good Publication Practices and industry standards.
  • Demonstrate understanding of therapeutic disease areas and establish strong collaborations with internal and external disease-area experts to ensure quality data analysis, interpretation, communication planning, and data disclosure/dissemination.
  • Ensure collection of insights to deliver high quality medical communication that enables impactful dialogue with customers.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to enhance processes, tools, operating procedures, and outsourcing strategy to ensure consistent delivery and alignment of standards.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Foster collaborative relationships with academic and clinical experts, publishers, medical associations and other relevant stakeholders; participate in external initiatives to build trust within the medical publishing community.
  • Partner with TA Medical Communication Leads, Market Medical and other stakeholders to assess, plan, and allocate resources to ensure timely delivery of high-quality medical communications.
  • Partner externally with 3rd party vendors to balance internal and external execution of work.
  • Establish clear metrics aligned with stakeholders and regularly communicate metrics.

Education & Experience

  • Advance scientific degree; PharmD, PhD, or MD preferred.
  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical/healthcare industry experience with a focus on medical communications; experience in both local country and global contexts preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, inform, negotiate and collaborate.
  • Experience working cross-functional with cross-cultural project teams across matrix, markets, and geographies.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous environments and drive results in a large, complex corporate setting with multiple priorities and tight timelines.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to manage timelines and quality of work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong time management.
  • Experience leading medical communications across all phases of drug development and commercialization.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret trial data and influence negotiation of solutions; establish strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to schedule and participate in teleconferences and virtual meetings across time zones.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Knowledge & Certifications

  • Pharmaceutical/Healthcare industry knowledge; understanding of external compliance and conflict-of-interest regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Good Publication Practices (GPP, ICMJE) and related guidance; familiarity with Sunshine Act and industry codes of conduct.
  • Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) and ISMPP active membership highly desired.
  • Understanding of clinical trial design and execution, statistical methods and reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with publication management tools (DataVision).
