Role Summary

Senior Manager, Supply Chain location: San Jose. Responsible for strategic planning and execution of supply, purchasing, and related policies; builds supplier relationships to support short and long-term supply chain strategies; collaborates with cross-functional partners to ensure buy-in and alignment; monitors supplier performance, mitigates risk, and drives cost optimization; maintains documentation and ERP systems; leads multiple projects and develops departmental metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in development, implementation, and monitoring of department policies, procedures, technical guidelines, and quality assurance standards, ensuring quality, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to improve total supply costs, service level, and quality.
  • Support continuous improvement in inventory management, warehousing, and materials management.
  • Develop sourcing strategies for new and existing products; prepare RFQs, evaluate suppliers, and negotiate supply agreements as appropriate.
  • Develop and lead a robust supplier management program to monitor supplier performance in quality, service, and total cost.
  • Proactively manage the supply base to reduce risks and ensure continued supply of components to meet requirements.
  • Assist NPI manager to ensure timely release, supplier establishment, and inventory systems to support New Product launches.
  • Review metrics to measure procurement performance, resolve issues, and establish/monitor departmental budget.
  • Provide effective leadership of direct reports, communicating a clear vision and aligning objectives with company strategy.
  • Manage, coach, counsel, appraise, and set job expectations for direct reports; manage compensation and motivation.
  • Ensure backups for all positions to maintain full coverage during business hours.
  • Drive improvements to inventory, including slow-moving inventory, storage, and transactional activity.
  • Execute non-conforming material processes (NCMR) driven by ECOs, expiry reports, and MRB, including related movements.
  • Follow company policies, SOPs, and safety guidelines; maintain a safe warehouse environment.
  • Other duties as required by Management.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years in Procurement/Purchasing with at least 3 years in a strategic leadership role; biotechnology experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple sites, onsite or remote.
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, business, finance, or related field.
  • Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of market dynamics, supplier bases, and cost drivers.
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices, supply chain management, and contract law as applied to procurement.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to influence suppliers and projects with minimal oversight, while collaborating in a team.
  • Proven presentation and project management experience; experience establishing supplier management programs.
  • LEAN and other Continuous Improvement experience preferred.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including warehouse, planning, production, sales, R&D, engineering, and finance.
  • Willingness to travel 15–25%.
  • Strong communication skills; proficiency in MS Office; experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, business, finance, or related field.
