Senior Manager, Service Contractor Safety

What You Will Do
Provide strategic and operational leadership for the development, implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of the Service Contractor Safety Program. Serve as a senior technical advisor and business partner to site operations, facilities, engineering, procurement, EHS, business owners, and external service providers to identify and control risk and improve safety performance across multiple sites and service categories.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of contractor safety program elements, systems, standards, governance, and training.
- Define program expectations, roles, decision rights, escalation pathways, and accountability.
- Integrate contractor safety requirements into sourcing, contracting, onboarding, service planning, execution, and performance management.
- Provide technical guidance on contractor risk, service delivery, resource allocation, and corrective-action priorities.
- Oversee governance/assurance using leadership reviews, scorecards, metrics, trends, and action tracking.
- Use safety data, observations, audits, incident trends, and contractor performance to identify systemic risks and drive improvements.
- Sponsor technology/data analytics/digital tools to improve contractor safety management.
- Provide oversight for contracted services (e.g., maintenance, facilities, utilities, calibration, janitorial, security, landscaping, waste management, pest control, food services, logistics).
- Ensure contractor/subcontractor orientation and task-specific safety training are effective and consistently implemented.
- Review contractor performance and engage senior leadership on significant or systemic safety issues.
- Ensure timely review of risk assessments, job hazard analyses, safe work plans, permits, and required safety documentation.
- Oversee inspections/observations/audits; document, communicate, escalate, track, and resolve non-conformances.
- Govern high-risk work via permit-to-work/control-of-work (e.g., lockout/tagout, electrical safety, hot work, confined space, work at height, line breaking).
- Lead incident/near-miss investigations, ensure corrective actions and lessons learned are applied, and escalate per SOP.

Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate + 2 years EHS/Occupational Safety/Engineering (related) experience; OR Master’s + 6 years; OR Bachelor’s + 8 years; OR Associate’s + 10 years; OR High school/GED + 12 years.
- Minimum 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leading teams/projects/programs and directing resource allocation.

Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years EHS experience supporting contractor operations and service environments.
- Experience leading contractor safety programs/governance/performance improvement across multiple sites/service categories.
- Advanced knowledge of safety regulations/standards.
- Ability to assess complex contractor work and develop compliant, sustainable risk controls.
- Independent leadership under minimal direction; cross-functional influence.
- Travel ~25%.
- Professional safety certification (CSP, CIH, CMIOSH, or equivalent).
- Regulated-industry contractor safety experience (pharma/biopharma/manufacturing) and multi-site/portfolio experience.
- Experience using technology, metrics, and data analytics to improve performance.
- Experience influencing senior leaders and coaching technical/operational teams.
