Key Responsibilities
- Research Laboratory Operations & Management (approx. 60%): Oversee daily operations of the Durham research lab; maintain a safe, organized, fully functional lab environment.
- Manage equipment & inventory: procurement, maintenance, decontamination, calibration, and repair of lab equipment; manage inventory/supply chain for consumables, reagents, and specialized materials.
- Safety & compliance: ensure activities meet safety regulations (including OSHA and biosafety guidelines); oversee lab safety protocols, hazardous waste disposal, and lab hygiene.
- Budget & vendor management: manage lab spending and operational budget tracking; coordinate purchase approvals and external vendors/contractors.
- Cross-functional collaboration: partner with facilities management, EH&S, procurement, and R&D project management for space planning, equipment utilization, and continuous improvements.
- Scientific Project Contribution (approx. 40%): Conduct hands-on in vitro assay work (screening platforms and biochemical assays); manage cell cultures; execute mechanism of action, target validation, and biomarker studies.
- Data & documentation: document/archive protocols, raw data, analyses, and conclusions per established procedures and ELN standards.
- Scientific communication: present findings internally; contribute to abstracts; support manuscripts.
Qualifications
- MS or PhD (or equivalent practical experience) in Biology, Biochemistry, Oncology, or related field.
- Proven experience managing a research laboratory in pharma/biotech.
- Required: competency in mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology; hands-on screening platforms/biochemical assays support/troubleshooting preferred.
- Preferred: oncology research background.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, problem-solving skills; hands-on approach; success in matrixed cross-functional environments.
Work Environment
- Full-time, laboratory-based, on-site role in Durham, NC.
Benefits/Compensation (US candidates)
- Base pay range: $136,000.00–$204,000.00.
- Eligible for medical, dental, vision, 401k, and flexible paid vacation.
